The Volvo Ocean Race is a global yachting competition held every two years. Seven teams battle it out over the course of eight months, sailing from city to city to see who can cover the 45,000 nautical miles the fastest. The race also helps raise awareness of plastic pollution in our oceans. Furthermore, even the materials used to build the yachts are sourced responsibly, & the organisers always to leave only a minimal footprint from its on shore operations, including the Race Village, touring boatyards, sponsor activities & associated technical operations that take place in each city hosting a leg of the event.
ZAP Concepts were commissioned to monitor the energy consumption of the onshore operations and ensure the event operations were delivered efficiently. ZAP will also be delivering a Smart Power Plan for the UK Race Village in Cardiff.
Meegan Jones, Sustainability Manager for the Volvo Ocean Race:
By working with ZAP Concepts, we were able to secure the energy monitoring data that we are after, allowing us to accurately predict the energy requirements of the different Race Villages.
